Nah I've been skiing in Australia before and I had Christmas in Germany in 2010 when it snowed the whole of the 24th. :D :D but it's still super exciting!!! Gah, lies, snow isn't hateable. :( How's it looking there in Berlin? I was there last weekend! :D

Yes, yes I do.
Nationalism and jingoism are what's currently keeping my country from collapsing into a crapheap of warring ideologies, ethnicities, and religious factions.
It's been that way for nearly as long as we've existed as a nation.
Starting in the 1830's with our "Manifest Destiny" model of westward expansion the US has fought back-to-back wars to perpetuate the ideal of "American Exceptionalism" and bind together millions of disparate people that oftentimes hated each other across vast tracts of land.

Our most brutal, to quote Kipling, "Bloody war of peace", was our own Civil War; a war that was fought to cement the decision in the eyes of all Americans that we are one indivisible people that must wage war and oppress ideological minorities within our own nation in order to survive.
