Well there are many other excellent writers of course... but Dostoewsky is so very profound, it digs so deep in the human psyche, that no wonder students find it boring... I too would have fallen asleep after having read one page of any of his novels 10 years ago, but now I find it psychologically fascinating. He sometimes points to character traits I can find even in myself. Like looking in a mirror. And his ability to mix the worst tragedy with a sense of humor is unparalleled.

Yeah I speak german, or better said I read and write it, for I have no talking partner. We can practice german, too...

Well I am not really spanish, but more of hungarian... it is by accident that I've got stuck here in this country... but I can give you a hand should you be interested in the language.

Now I am reading "Crime and Punishment" for a second time, in german translation. I hope one day I will be able to read it in the original... I already read some short novels from Dostoewsky like "white nights" and "letters from the underground". Impressive indeed.
